ANZEA online workshop: Building Your Online Facilitation Practice

September 22 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

ANZEA warmly invites you to register for this 4-hour online workshop with Carolyn Camman and Amanda Fenton focusing on tools and practices for online facilitation.

This immersive, participatory session is offered by two experienced hosts of spaces both online and in person, Amanda Fenton and Carolyn Camman. Those joining us will get firsthand experience of all the methods and principles shared, and the participatory design means the content is shaped by your questions and context. People at all experience levels will walk away with a deepened practice and fresh insights into online facilitation skills.

About the workshop:

The COVID-19 pandemic shifted our landscapes rapidly and introduced many of us to a new world of gathering and co-creating online. While meeting face-to-face will always be important, working effectively in digital spaces adds new dimensions of possibility to our work, allowing us to be together in different, equally generative, and sometimes even more accessible ways. With good practices in designing, hosting, harvesting, and enabling participation, we can create online meetings that folks leave feeling energised instead of ‘zoom-fatigued’, and make the most of the opportunities present in gathering online.

While we will use some specific tools (such as Zoom, Miro, and Menti), the focus will be on transferable principles, practices, and frameworks that can be applied across tools and platforms. Many of the fundamental skills of good online facilitation are the same as those for effective in-person meetings, so this is an opportunity to explore and flex all your facilitation skills in a collaborative session with colleagues grappling with similar challenges as we learn from and with each other.

Specific things you can look forward to learning are:

  • an organising framework for creating meaningful and participatory meetings and workshops
  • a simple meeting design process based on the principles of chaordic stepping stones
  • examples of using digital tools in an integrated way for engaging and creative meetings
  • tips and guidance for making the most of the online environment

We will also provide a host of shareable, open-source supplemental resources on topics from how to do Open Space in Zoom to meaningful remote engagement in low-tech situations.

Whatever unfolds in this time of great uncertainty, what we know is that we can do powerful things when we gather to do them together. Come join us to learn more!
