Description
This scholarship is for Māori students with a passion for research and evaluation. Ideally, they would be interested in the role of evaluation in public service, but they may actually have a particular Māori-focussed programme in mind that they are keen to evaluate.
History
This scholarship is part of a Marsden-funded study of what works best, for whom, and in what circumstances, when it comes to the role of evaluation in those public policy. The scholarship is to support a Māori doctoral candidate to either: study the culture and practice of Māori evaluation in Aotearoa’s State sector; or evaluate a Māori-focused health, education, social development or housing programme.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Māori and have recently completed a good Honours or Masters’ degree.

Applicants may be requested to supply evidence of financial hardship if applicable, and any other documentation they wish to be considered by the committee, such as personal statements or character references, to assist their application.
Selection process
Successful recipient will be selected by Dr Lynne Russell, Dr Jenny Neale and Professor Jackie Cumming.
Regulations and conditions
- Recipient must receive an offer of place for doctoral study at Victoria University of Wellington.
- Recipient is required to adhere to the relevant Victoria Doctoral Scholarship regulations and to sign a Victoria University Postgraduate Scholarship Contract.
- At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
